Questions And Answers
e-mail questions to info@newfoundlakeweather.com

This question came in a few times recently when the camera was not working.

My costs maintaining this website include monthly internet MetroCast/Atlantic Broad Band/Breezeline. Annual cost of registering domain name newfoundlakeweather.com. Annual cost GoDaddy web hosting. Initial purchase and occasional replacement cost of weather station parts, data collection computer, water temperature sensor / transmitter, camera, batteries.

If you want to send a check let me know via e-mail info@newfoundlakeweather.com I will respond with where to send it.

Thank you for the offers.

Paul

Sometimes equipment fails. Sometimes power goes out. Sometimes internet fails.

Some of you know MetroCast, Atlantic Broad Band, Breezeline reliability issues around the lake.

Sometimes I am not in the area when the failure occurs. For years I lived 90 miles from the lake and would not get to the lake for some time to diagnose and fix the problem.

Some failures can only be fixed by replacing failed equipment like power supplies, camera, data collection computer, battery in weather station, battery in temperature sensor/sender. Some of these require purchasing through Amazon and waiting for delivery then spending time at the lake installing the replacement.

Some equipment replacements require rewriting the software running on the server, this can take time.

The images are sent to the website by the camera and they are downloaded to your browser when you update the page. There is the option to run the slide show with today's images so those are kept for a day or so.

I do not have unlimited space on GoDaddy Web Hosting so images are deleted when I have more than 100 images. In winter when daylight hours are limited that can be a few days. In summer with longer daylight hours that can be a couple of days.

Whenever your browser displays an image you have downloaded that image and you can save it if you want it.

I have no equipment to accurately measure snowfall and provide the details to my data collection computer which would then send the data to the website.

I do not live at the site where the weather data is collected so I cannot manually step outside and take measurements and post them.

I did that one winter and the equipment was destroyed by the ice. Cost over $100 to replace. I will not do that again.
